Things are going to change with my organization.
Sure, no one owes me anything to help, yet dozens and dozens of locals daily want free TNR services performed in their yards, transport to their house to pick up an owner surrender or a random stray they see on their street, or to sponge up the few low-cost spay/neuter appointments that I can get my hands on in an ever competitive race to acquire them by other rescue groups.
Pictured is Franklin. His owner threw him outside like garbage because he did not want the cat anymore. I know this for a fact. It had nothing to do with economics. It had to do with the person's character. I rescued Franklin and got him fixed and fully vetted (no surprise that his former owner didn't neuter him), and he is FIV+, most likely from fighting with other unfixed male cats over the past few months.
I asked multiple times for a foster, yet no offers. Also, I had rescued five or six litters of kittens but only got fosters for three of them.
I will humbly ask again, if anyone local to Queens or Manhattan, can foster Franklin, Big Boy, or any of my recent adult rescues. I also have a few litters of kittens not being touched at all, just being fed and medicated by me twice daily before and after my shift at work.
I ask that you have your own transportation. NYC is tough, but Ubers are everywhere. I am no longer offering my own transportation to drop off and pick up foster cats. I turned in my leased car to the dealership a few weeks ago. I went 20,000 miles over my mileage agreement....95% of my miles were local miles!
I understand if you can not foster, and even if you can not donate. However, on my end, the freeloading is over, of being an on-demand trapper to people's yards unless they are paying for spay/neuter appointments, gas, cleaning expenses, lunch, etc. Besides, I have a long list of places that I personally want to trap at, where I don't even know if there is a dedicated feeder, in not so great places, where I would like to devote my own time to. Those are the cats who don't have a voice and need my help the most.
