They say the kitchen is the heart of the home.
And it is. It's the place that holds the pulse of every ordinary, every messy, every moment you actually lived.
The place that holds chip in the counter from the night you slammed the coffee cup in rage. (And the sticky note that just says "I'm sorry" still hanging on the cupboard there three weeks later.)
The place for dirty dishes and dog hair.
The place for dancing in and dashing out.
The place for arguments and the place to hug it out.
The place that holds the pencil marks of all the kids height climbing the doorframe.
The place where a permanent coffee ring stained the counter and the permanent marker on the wall from your two year old.
The place where dropped spoons, spilled milk, and every drip of ice cream drop has landed for eight years.
The place for bills, and burps, and begging for candy.
The place for Homework and the place hope.
The place you called the school and called your friends.
The place where magnets hold up stick drawings, Xmas cards, school pictures, and party invites.
And the place that holds the faint smell of lilacs in the spring.
That's a kitchen. That's a home. Let's find yours.
