Don’t trust any lawn company, trust us. We’re breaking down the most asked questions/concerns we receive on a daily basis.
Why is my grass…
Grass turning yellow? When your grass starts to turn yellow it’s a sign that your lawn may have too much or not enough of a certain nutrient. A fertilization company can take a sample of your soil and pinpoint exactly what your lawn needs to ensure healthy grass. If the issue goes untreated your lawn can become “sick” (fungus/bacteria). Once this occurs it will spread and start to kill the grass until the issue is corrected.
Grass turning brown? Typically when this occurs it can be a number of things. The yard may be over watered, under watered, have a pest/insect issue, the time of day you water, or a fungus issue. If your yard is receiving too much water, you could be drowning your yard. In order to fix that you need to minimize the amount you are watering it, or install a drainage system to push that excess water out. If your yard isn’t receiving enough water you are dehydrating it causing it to die and potentially burn. The time of day you water your yard could also play a huge factor on why your yard is turning brown, watering it mid day will cause the lawn to burn. It is best to water your yard early morning (before sunrise) or early evening. Pest like armadillos/possums or insects like fire ants/mole crickets can cause the yard to die because they disrupt the nutrients of the soil. A fungus issue will spread thus causing the yard to die. The soil needs its PH tested and corrected.
Grass dying? Again, a number of issues which could stem from all of the above issues. If all are corrected and the yard is still dying, get with your lawn company and find out if they are sharpening their blades. If a mower has dull blades the grass is not being cut cleanly, leaving the grass to have split ends. When this happens you are leaving the grass to be very susceptible to a fungus or bacteria.
