Women Veterans Day marks the anniversary of the Women’s Armed Services Integration Act of 1948, which allowed women to serve as permanent, regular members of the U.S. military during peacetime. The signing of this act changed history, opening the door for women to serve across all branches.

Today we honor the thousands of women who have served, and continue to serve, protecting and strengthening our nation.

As a Retired Police Officer👮 prior first responder at 9/11 and father of a State Trooper, I know what it means to be a first responder and Parent of one.

From May 10–16, the Delaware Department of Correction proudly joins agencies across the nation in recognizing National Police Week.

This week, we extend our deepest gratitude to the men and women in uniform who wear the badge with pride and commitment to protect and serve our communities each day. We also pause to honor and remember the law enforcement officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Their courage, dedication, and legacy will never be forgotten.

We stand in solidarity with our fellow law enforcement partners and the families who support them.
