Congratulations to the Bennett family on their new home in Santa Clarita!!! When we first started talking about homes they sent me a house that they liked. I asked what they liked about the home and they said “everything”. It didn’t take long to realize that this was the one for them. We were able to get them their “everything” home a couple of months later. Soon they will be all moved in from their 900 sq ft condo. Enjoy the extra 2,000+ feet of space!

There are at least three currencies at work when remodeling a home. Money, time, and relationships. 60% of people would take on a remodeling task themselves than hire a professional to do it for them. While you may enjoy saving money, it is worth considering how it’ll affect your time and relationships. Remember, 55% of people responded that their project took longer than expected when they tried to do it themself and didn’t look as good as they might have hoped.

Another consideration to take into account is how it will affect those that live with you (roommates, spouses, and children). What strain will you put on them if the project goes on for weeks longer than you thought? How will the conversation go when you tell your partner that $1,000 more is needed to make the house live-able again?

If you are trying to save money by doing fixes or remodeling yourself, educate yourself in whatever you are doing and plan it out. Don’t forget to protect your other currencies in life as well. Allow for more time than expected and never be afraid to ask for help from those around you.
