For first-time buyers assuming a 20% down payment is required, it's worth knowing Connecticut offers real assistance that can close much of that gap.

Connecticut Housing Finance Authority, or CHFA, is a "Time To Own" program offers up to $50,000 in forgivable down payment assistance depending on income and location. A second program, DAP, adds a repayable second mortgage from $3,000 to $20,000.
