As Florida continues addressing housing affordability, voters may soon have the opportunity to decide on a proposed constitutional amendment that could significantly reduce property taxes for many homeowners.

Here's a quick breakdown:

✅ Current Homestead Exemption:
Homeowners who qualify for Florida's Homestead Exemption currently receive a $50,000 reduction in their home's taxable value.

✅ Proposed Increase:
If approved by voters, the exemption could increase to:
• $150,000 in 2027
• $250,000 in 2028

📊 Example:
For a home valued at $300,000:

Current system:
$300,000 − $50,000 exemption = Taxes based on $250,000

Proposed system (2028):
$300,000 − $250,000 exemption = Taxes based on only $50,000
