🏰 FUN FACT FRIDAY | Palm Beach County Edition

Did you know Palm Beach Gardens almost became home to Disney World?!🤯

In the early days of Palm Beach Gardens, founder John D. MacArthur tried to bring Walt Disney’s planned Florida theme park right here to Palm Beach County.

MacArthur and Walt reportedly shook hands on a deal involving 320 acres along PGA Boulevard, But when Walt’s brother Roy wanted additional land, negotiations fell apart.

Just imagine how different Palm Beach Gardens — and really all of Palm Beach County — might look today if that handshake had turned into Disney World. 👀🏰🌴

It’s stories like this that make me love learning about the place I get to call home AND helping others call home, too.

Palm Beach County has some secrets hiding in plain sight. 👀🌴

Just off the coast of Riviera Beach sits Peanut Island — a place most of us know for boating, snorkeling, and spending a beautiful South Florida day on the water.

But tucked away on the island is a piece of Cold War history.

In 1961, an emergency bunker was built for President John F. Kennedy while he stayed at his family’s Palm Beach home. The shelter was intended to protect the president in the event of an emergency while he was in South Florida.

It’s one of those pieces of local history that makes you look at a familiar place completely differently.

Next time you’re cruising past Peanut Island, remember, there’s a lot more history there than meets the eye.

🏝️ FUN FACT FRIDAY | Boca Raton Edition 💻

When you think of the birthplace of the personal computer, you probably think Silicon Valley… but how about Boca Raton? 👀

Right here in Palm Beach County, a small IBM team worked on a secret project code-named “Project Acorn.” Their work led to the launch of the IBM Personal Computer (IBM 5150) on August 12, 1981 — a computer that would help change the way people worked, learned and eventually lived at home.

And it happened right here in our backyard. 🤍

As both a local Realtor® and Palm Beaches Certified Tourism Ambassador, this is one of the things I love most about where we live. There’s so much more to Palm Beach County than beautiful homes, beaches and palm trees — every community has a story, and sometimes the places we drive past every day played a part in something much bigger.
