Imagine you’re searching high and low for that perfect home šŸ” — every open house, every listing, until you finally find ā€˜the one.’ But here’s the kicker: there’s a lien on it. 😬

Liens can be attached to properties, meaning any debt or legal claim follows the property itself, not the owner.

Here’s what you need to know:

āœ…Ā Mortgage liens – These stay on the property until the mortgage is fully paid. Make sure all mortgage liens are resolved before you buy.

āœ…Ā Income and property tax liens – Unpaid taxes? These could mean the government has first rights on the property’s sale. Check for any tax liens early on.

āœ…Ā Judgment liens – If there was a court case against the previous owner, a judgment lien might be attached. This needs to be cleared before moving forward.
