TRAFFIC ADVISORY | In Honor of Boston Firefighter Robert Kilduff Jr.

The Boston Police Department is issuing the following traffic advisory in connection with the wake and funeral services for Boston Firefighter Robert Kilduff Jr. on Sunday, May 31 and Monday, June 1.

SUNDAY, MAY 31 | West Roxbury
No parking or standing will be in effect on both sides of Centre Street from Spring Street to Lagrange Street Sunday afternoon in the vicinity of Saint Theresa of Avila Parish. Motorists in the West Roxbury area should expect delays and are encouraged to use alternate routes.

MONDAY, JUNE 1 | South End
No parking or standing will be in effect Monday morning at the following locations in the vicinity of the Cathedral of the Holy Cross:

•Washington Street (both sides) from East Concord Street to Waltham Street
•Monsignor Reynolds Way (both sides) from Washington Street to Harrison Avenue
•Union Park Street (both sides) from Washington Street to Harrison Avenue

Motorists in the South End should expect significant traffic delays Monday morning and are strongly encouraged to use alternate routes and allow additional travel time.

The Boston Police Department thanks the public for their patience and cooperation as we honor the memory of Firefighter Kilduff.

One of the things we love about the Parkway area is how many great local businesses have real staying power.

Top It Off Accessories is a perfect example.

Elizabeth Hoenshine has built something special right here in West Roxbury. The business has been around for years, the accessories are fun and affordable, and the brand has grown far beyond the neighborhood. They’ve even landed on Oprah’s Favorite Things.

But what makes it even better is that it still feels local.

That’s the kind of business story we love. Strong roots here, real success, and still connected to the community it grew from.

It’s another reminder that Parkway is full of people building good things, and we’re always glad to shine a light on that.

Here are a few of the spots that give the Parkway neighborhood its local flavor.

1. Bay State Model Railroad Museum - This one feels like a true local find. It only opens a couple of times a year, which makes it the kind of place people love discovering through word of mouth.

2. Hynes Playground Splash Pad - If you’ve got kids, this is a good one to know. The playground is great, and the splash pad makes it even better once the weather warms up.

3. Bread.Thyme If you know, you know. Great Lebanese food, and exactly the kind of local place people end up telling their friends about.

4. Arnold Arboretum of Harvard University - This is one of those places that reminds you how much green space is right here if you know where to look. Trails, trees, room to walk, and a completely different pace for an hour.

5. Mr. Sweeper Vacuums A family-owned vacuum store that has been around for years. Old-school local businesses like this (and the people who own them) are part of what makes neighborhoods feel real.

That’s the stuff we love about this area. Not just the obvious places, the places that give it personality.
