July brought a significant amount of rain, and while your lawn may have appreciated it, your home’s foundation may not.
After periods of heavy rainfall, take a few minutes to walk around your property and see where the water is going. Are your gutters overflowing? Are your downspouts draining too close to the house? Is water pooling near the foundation?
Small drainage issues can eventually become much larger and more expensive problems.
A few things worth checking:
• Clear debris from gutters and downspouts
• Make sure downspouts direct water away from the foundation
• Look for low areas where water consistently collects
• Check basements and lower levels for dampness or signs of seepage
A little preventive maintenance can go a long way toward keeping summer rain outside where it belongs.
