Our hearts are shattered to share that our beloved founding cat, Mackenzie, passed away on April 28, 2023 at the age of 17.

To many, she was the essence of adventure cats, grumpy meows, drive thru bacon and the inspiration behind this charity. To others, she was the reason they decided to adopt a senior cat, take their cat on adventures or give a grumpy calico cat a chance.

To our family, she was the missing piece of the puzzle. She brought us together with her grumpy hellos when we walked through the door, sweet snuggles, mischievousness nature and her deep love for us — the same love we had the privilege of showing her daily for the last three years.

Her legacy will live on through every adoption we do and her memory will live on through the millions of lives she touched. We wholeheartedly know she is in heaven, reunited with our beloved grandparents, who we know welcomed her with the warmest hugs, eager to hear about her time since they’ve been gone.

We want to take this time to say a special thank you to Tantallon Veterinary Hospital. Their team has gone above and beyond for our family and our girl for the last three years. We know the deep love they each have for her and we will forever be grateful for the kindness they showed us.

We will be taking time to grieve this tremendous loss as a family. As you grieve with us, hold your loved ones close, sneak your cats a bit of bacon and cherish the precious moments you have with them, as we did every day with our girl.

Thank you, Mackie, for changing the world. Our love for you will never waiver. We will love you with every breathe we take for the rest of our lives.
