I had the chance to work with a man who moved to the United States from India. He had recently brought his wife to America and they wanted in on the American Dream, home ownership. They came to my office for a typical home buyer consultation meeting. We discussed the home buying process, what to expect and of course I asked them a ton of questions. Mrs. Buyer knew exactly what she wanted, it was now just a matter of finding the right home.

We ventured out looking at a group of homes I felt met all their wants and needs. Each time we viewed a property, she was disappointed. After viewing six properties, we called it quits and agreed to find more to view the following weekend. She could not explain why these homes were not going to work for her. A week later we are off looking at eight more homes. Again, she was dissatisfied and started thinking home ownership was not for them. While standing in the last home for that day , I pushed for an answer. What she revealed was surprising.

She quietly admitted that she did not like the furniture and decor of any of the homes we viewed. She did not tell me that sooner because she did not want anyone to be offended. I shared that when she decorated the home to her tastes the home would look nicer. She informed me that all new furniture and decor would be too expensive to replace. It was then that I learned they believed all the furniture and decor came with the home. As soon as I explained they only get the building in the purchase, we went back to a home we visited prior and made an offer. They got their American Dream. Don’t take a buyer consult meeting too lightly.
