New shops and restaurants are coming to downtown Westfield, while others close.

We’re thrilled to share that the New Jersey Economic Development Authority has approved a $43,381,250 tax credit award through its Cultural Arts Facilities Expansion (CAFE) Program to help transform Westfield’s historic Rialto theater site into the new Rialto Center for Creativity.

This significant state investment launches the next phase of the project and a new $10 million fundraising campaign to support final construction and early operations. Construction is expected to begin in 2027, with the new Rialto Center for Creativity planned to open in 2029.

When complete, the Rialto will feature a flexible performance and event space for up to 450 people, galleries, studios and classrooms, and spaces for community and private gatherings.
