Every house starts below the ground.

Footing pour day on a new home. The forms are set, the rebar is tied, and the mixer backs up to the trench. The chute swings over, the concrete goes in, and the crew rakes it level along every line of the house. By the end of the morning the whole outline is sitting there in fresh concrete, ready for the foundation walls.

Nobody will ever see this part again. It is the part everything else stands on. Over thirty years.

Arches, inside and out.

This stucco house was walked through the week the drywall went up. Arched openings line the hall beside the open stair. A full-height arched window looks out over the lawn. Upstairs there is a landing with French doors at the end, a bedroom with its fireplace surround in place, and a tray ceiling over the bath. Then back outside to the arched windows and the arched carriage entry that started it all.

No paint yet, no trim yet. Just the shape of the house, and it already has a lot to say. Over thirty years.

Same house, two visits.

The first time, the front of this brick colonial was under scaffold. A new entry portico was framed and trimmed, the door was wrapped in plastic, and the brick work was still going on around it. The second time, the scaffold was gone. White columns under a curved arch, a stained double door beneath a brass lantern, black shutters on every window and the bluestone walk leading right up to it.

From scaffold to finished, built to last. Over thirty years.

Color belongs in every room, even the laundry.

Inside a finished Dutch colonial, every space got its own personality. A laundry room papered floor to ceiling in birds and blooms over navy cabinets. A walnut island under brass pendants. Gingham shades in the breakfast nook, built in shelves backed in soft mint, a paneled bedroom and a vaulted sitting room tucked under the roof. Bold where it counts, calm where it matters.

Custom homes built around the people who live in them. Over thirty years.

Not every build is the main house.

A detached carriage house, finished out like it was always part of the property. White lap siding, red board and batten shutters and a standing seam roof over a porch on turned columns. Carriage doors open onto a garage that holds a vintage gas pump and a classic car, and upstairs there is a loft built for game night. Every inch of it designed around how the owner actually lives.

Custom homes, additions and the buildings out back. Over thirty years.

One house, every room with a reason to be there.

Brick out front and a pagoda roofed portico over the double doors. Inside, a library lined floor to ceiling with lit built ins, a leather chesterfield and a glass waiting on the side table. A powder room papered in cranes. Down a steel framed glass door and an iron stair, a lounge hung with vintage aperitivo posters. And at the end of the night, the bar, with its lamps lit and the stools pulled in. We built all of it to be lived in, not just looked at.

Custom homes, additions and the rooms nobody expects. Over thirty years.

A dining room is the one room in a house with no job to do. So it gets to be beautiful.

Look up first. The ceiling is laid in stained oak plank, edge to edge, and it changes the whole room before you have looked at anything else. A vine pattern paper runs every wall. A brass ring chandelier hangs over a walnut table on striped chairs. And off the end of it, the w**e wall: white glass front cabinets set on green glazed tile, brass pulls, w**e fridges built in underneath, a bar ledge with room for a bottle and two glasses. Every one of those decisions had to be made twice, once on paper and once on site.

Custom homes and additions, built for the way people actually live in them. Over thirty years.

Nobody photographs the mudroom. It is the room the family actually uses every single day.

Start at the back door and follow it through. Herringbone brick laid across the entry floor, a leather bench under the glazed doors, then a full wall of lockers in soft grey with brass pulls and a drawer bank running underneath the seat. Brass sconces on either side of an arched mirror in the hall between. And at the end of it, the laundry: a quartz run with an undermount sink set into a wallpapered arch, and three washers and dryers standing on their own plinths. This is the half of a house that decides whether living in it feels easy.

Custom homes, additions, and the working rooms given the same attention as the kitchen. Over thirty years.

A full width porch, columns all the way across, and gable dormers set into the roof.

This is the front elevation doing exactly what a front elevation should. The porch runs the width of the house under its own roof, the columns carry it, and the dormers above bring light into the second floor without breaking the roofline. Inside, the same care runs through the kitchen, the open living and dining space, the stairs, and the bedrooms.

Custom homes built from the framing up, finished with the same attention at every stage. Over thirty years.

A custom home gets judged on its kitchen. It gets lived in downstairs.

The lower level of this build holds a lounge, a ping pong room, an arcade hoop framed into the wall, a wet bar with oak shelves floating on a marble slab, a home gym and a golf simulator. None of it is treated as leftover space. Same trim and wainscot as the floors above, recessed lighting laid out on a grid, and one continuous floor running the whole length of the house.

Custom homes and additions, built the same way for over thirty years.
