purchased 21% of homes in 2025 — more than twice the 9% purchased by
single men, and second only to married couples at 61%.

As reported by Jessica Lautz in “For Galentine’s Day, Celebrating
Single Women Buyers and Opportunities for Single Men Buyers” (February
10, 2026):

• Single women have consistently outpaced single men in homeownership
since tracking began in 1981
• Among first-time buyers, 25% are single women (compared to 10% single men)
• Single women buyers have a median income of $73,000
• 41% make financial sacrifices — cutting spending, postponing
vacations, even taking second jobs — to achieve ownership

It’s worth noting: women were not legally able to obtain a mortgage
without a co-signer until 1974.

Today, they are building wealth independently in an increasingly
