Looking over my February calendar reminds me that this job is about so much more than houses—it’s about the trust you all place in me.

This month, I have three deals pending plus another listing (coming tomorrow!) and the best part isn’t the number—it’s the people behind them. Each one of these contracts represents a repeat client coming back for a second chapter, or a kind word passed from a past client to a friend.

To me, a referral is the highest compliment I can receive. It means the work we did together before meant something.

This is what happens when snow melts on the roof… then refreezes at the edge.

That thick ridge of ice…
It traps water behind it, and that water has nowhere to go except…

➡️ under shingles
➡️ into decking
➡️ down walls
➡️ and into your ceiling (at the worst possible time)

The scary part is most homeowners don’t know there’s damage until spring… when the leaks show up.

If you’ve had heavy icicles, ice buildup, or mystery stains this winter, it might be worth getting your roof checked once things thaw out.

Check your sump pump discharge

Winter thaws can place extra demand on residential drainage systems. A properly functioning sump pump and foundation drain help move groundwater away from your home, but where that water discharges is just as important.

Sump pumps should discharge onto your lawn or another landscaped area where water can soak into the ground. This helps reduce strain on the stormwater system and prevents icy conditions in the street. Water should never be directed onto sidewalks, driveways or neighboring properties.

During freezing weather, check that discharge does not create ice buildup that could block flow or create a safety hazard. If your sump pump connects to a pipe, confirm it discharges to an approved outlet and not the sanitary sewer. Improper connections are prohibited and can overload the sewer system.

Taking a few minutes to check your sump pump helps protect your home, your neighbors and North Ridgeville’s stormwater infrastructure.

Follow these 4 simple tips to stay safe during this upcoming winter storm!❄️🌨️

1.) Protect your pipes
Insulate exposed pipes in basements, crawl spaces, and garages. When temperatures drop hard, let faucets drip slightly to prevent freezing and burst pipes (future-you will be grateful).

2.) Stock up on essentials
Have a few days’ worth of food, water, medications, flashlights, batteries, and a backup phone charger ready. Power outages love to show up uninvited during winter storms.

3.) Seal up drafts and check heat sources
Weatherstrip doors and windows, seal gaps, and make sure your furnace or heating system is serviced and working efficiently. A warm home = less strain on your system and lower energy bills.

4.) Prepare for snow and ice removal
Keep shovels, ice melt, and a snow blower accessible and fueled. Clearing walkways quickly helps prevent ice buildup and keeps everyone safer coming and going.

Don’t let food poisoning crash your Thanksgiving dinner! Thawing in the refrigerator is the safest thawing method. Plan ahead, allowing one full day for every four pounds of turkey.
