Florida’s long-standing Business Rent Tax (BRT) has been eliminated, effective October 1, 2025 in a move expected to save commercial tenants $2.5 billion annually and boost Florida’s competitiveness in attracting and growing businesses. This repeal, covering both the state sales tax and county surtaxes on commercial leases, gives businesses more capital to expand, hire, and improve benefits. Since 1969, Florida has uniquely taxed commercial leases on various property types, but this landmark change ends that practice, helping keep the state an attractive place to start and grow businesses.
