🏡 Selling a Home in Shaler Township? There’s a New Step to Know About

Hampton Shaler Water Authority (HWSA) is now identifying the material of the water service line entering each property—typically the pipe located immediately before the water meter.

If HWSA does not already have this information on file, the service-line material may need to be verified as part of the property sale.

Sellers have two options:

☎️ Schedule a free inspection with HWSA at 412-486-4867

OR

📧 Email a clear photo of the service line to [email protected]. Include the property address and the pipe material.

🔍 How to identify your service line:

Locate the pipe where the water line enters the home—usually in the basement, crawl space, or garage near the main shut-off valve. Gently scratch the pipe with a coin or key.

Lead: Scratches easily and reveals a shiny silver color; a magnet will not stick.
Copper: The scratched area reveals a copper-penny color.
Galvanized steel: A magnet will stick, and the scratched area will appear dull gray.
Plastic (PVC/PEX): Rigid or flexible synthetic material; a magnet will not stick.

If you are unsure about the material, scheduling HWSA’s free inspection is the safest option.

Taking care of this early may help prevent an unexpected delay when selling your Hampton Township home.
