I am sure you have heard the saying "out of the red" when someone is talking about trying to get out of debt.

But did you know that, historically, citizens of Scotland and Ireland used to paint the front door of their home red to show they no longer had a mortgage?

Almost 5 years ago, we bought our house and there was this huge dead space under the stairs. It was such a waste of space which drove me crazy…around 40 sqft we literally couldn’t use unless we emptied the coat closet and lifted the back wall.

It’s been on our “someday” list to do something about it for 5 years now.

Well…“someday” finally happened! 🙌 Nick installed a knee door and suddenly this wasted space became accessible, useful, and full of storage.

My original plan was to use it for holiday decor so I don’t have to drag bins up from the basement every year. But now that it’s done, I have a feeling it’s about to turn into a kid cave instead. 😂 Next project on the list…the staircase/banisters! Maybe we won’t take 5 more years to get this one done.

Don and Deb lived in their home for 30 years. That is a whole lot of memories. It’s where they raised their kids. Where holidays were celebrated as a family. And where grandkids eventually filled the rooms with noise and laughter.

Deciding to leave a place like that isn’t easy - even when you know it’s time for something new.

But they were ready to downsize and move to a new area. More than anything on their checklist, they wanted a house that still felt like home.

When they found the perfect new place, in the same neighborhood where we bought our first home, it felt like things had come full circle. What started as a referral quickly turned into a real relationship.

Then came the hardest part…preparing the home they loved for its next chapter.

Packing up a home of 30 years and all the memories that go with it is not easy! But it was prepped beautifully and sold to another wonderful family who now get to create memories of their own.

And the best part? Our little Dominic now plays with their grandkids! What began as a move has turned into a lifelong connection between now friends. And we wouldn't have it any other way!

We helped 32 families sell their homes or find their dream homes this year. Here's what that *really* means...

31 children got a new living room to play with their toys in.

18 dogs have a new paradise of a backyard to run around in.

4 cats are climbing the freshly put-up Christmas tree (and probably breaking a few ornaments while they're at it).

16 moms are decorating their garlands in a new spot this year.

We absolutely love helping families turn houses into homes. We will never get over how emotional it can be to hand a set of keys to someone across the closing table and watch their smile grow larger.

There’s something so special about traditions, those little things we do year after year that somehow become the heartbeat of the holidays.

As kids, we didn’t realize how much those moments mattered, like baking cookies with mom, driving around to look at Christmas lights, opening one present on Christmas Eve, but now, as adults, we realize that’s what made Christmas feel like magic.

Traditions give us a sense of comfort and belonging. They remind us of who we are, where we’ve come from, and the people we love most. And the best part? We get to pass them down or create new ones that will one day be remembered the same way.

For me, one of our current Christmas traditions is going to see the beautiful light displays around where we live, whether it's at the Morton Arboretum, Lilacia Park, Sonny Acres, or seeing the homes that are decorated amazingly! Our little guy gets so excited to see the light displays and it’s quickly become something that we’re doing each year, if not multiple times each year.

I also remember all of the Christmas traditions growing up, decorating the tree, baking and decorating Christmas cookies with Grandma, and always trying to find the presents my mom hid from us ☺

Both of us have always been animal lovers since we were young. Our desire is to raise Dominic to be the same way. We think there’s so much that can be learned and gained from loving and caring for animals. Growing up, I was the kid that if I found a hurt animal of any kind, I instantly wanted to bring it home and bring it back to health (thanks, Mom!). I am an animal lover through and through.

Recently, we had the opportunity to foster two-week-old kittens for a couple of days. We loved watching Dom love on those little babies and how sweet, gentle, and kind he was with them. We were all a little teary-eyed when it was time to send them along. But we sure did love those kitten snuggles for those couple of days! 🥰

Anyone else love on any baby animals recently? We all know a photo of a baby animal is a surefire way to brighten someone’s day… let me see those photos!

I recently read this quote: “Work is important, but you also need to disconnect, to unplug at times, in order to be even more concentrated when you do work.” Man, isn’t that the truth? In a day and age where connection is at our fingertips all day long, I feel the need now more than ever to “disconnect” in order to truly connect with those I love.

For Nick & I, we recently escaped to Woodhaven Lakes with our little guy and some family. It was only a day trip, but it’s also somewhere my family, friends, and I grew up going to. It brings back so many memories and is special to now be bringing my little family to. It’s peaceful being out of “the grind" temporarily, going fishing, riding mopeds, and going on the boats looking for frogs & turtles.

Sometimes, we may not respond in the first few minutes when we get a client reaching out when we’re in our day of disconnecting and spending time with our family. But, I promise that when we do connect again, we will be more refreshed and ready to give you our best!
