1893: Visitors to the World’s Columbian Exposition in Chicago got to ride the debut of the first Ferris wheel, which was designed by George W. Ferris.

“It seemed as if 100,000 gazed in trembling and anticipation of something awful from the earth below,” a Tribune reporter aboard one of the cars recounted. “The stream of humanity along the Midway ceased its movement and gazed at the monster wheel." (Chicago Tribune) 🎡

Crews Starting Work to Improve Path Entrances into Adams Park

Over the next few weeks, crews will be replacing three brick paver path entrances in Adams Park with concrete paths. This work will add to the City's previous improvements to Adams Park, during which the City added ADA-accessible stamped concrete paths through the park. Replacing the brick paver entrances at the northwest, northeast and southeast corners with concrete sidewalks will help provide accessible entrances from all directions.

The park will remain open, and park visitors can continue to use the entrances at the north, south, east, west and southwest sides. Thank you for your patience while crews work to make these important improvements to make Adams Park more usable for all to enjoy.
