Containing 3 homes, 60-acre lake, airplane hanger + runway, pool, volleyball court, squash court, racquetball court, tennis courts, frisbee golf course, hiking trails and more, this property has it all! Lakewood Valley was started by Richard N Anderson Sr in the early 1970’s as a project to keep his then teen & pr***en sons ( Richard jr, John & Stuart) productively occupied learning new skills ov
er a long period of time. The project was to find & buy land which could support a lake large enough to accommodate a 1-2/3rds mile triangular race course for 100+mph hydroplanes. The boys started by learning to read topographical maps & how to survey. The following 3.5 yrs they spent every moment possible camping there & harvesting over 100 truck loads of timber from the valley & moving over 200,000 yds of clay , dirt & rock to build a 35 ft tall x 3,400 ft long dam, regularly inspected by the US Army Corps of Engineers, to the same class A specs as Kentucky Lake dam. On November 5th , 1975 they turned the wheel to seal the lake drain valve & 5 months later there was a lake of over 60 acres stretching over 1 mile south to north with 3.5 miles of shoreline. In the following years, with their friends, they also planted 90,000 trees, added tennis courts, several pools , water slide, boat docks , walks, picnic shelter, several miles of roads & trails, etc. In 2003 the family decided to share this facility in a charitable way by working with the local YMCA to field a Triathlon event to raise funds enabling underprivileged children to participate in the benefits of the YMCA.
