Buying your first home? Don’t choose your lender based on the first preapproval or the prettiest rate you see online. 👀

Look for these four things:

1️⃣ Proper licensing and real experience because your home purchase is not the time for someone to practice.

2️⃣ Someone who listens and works toward your goals. If they’re doing all the talking, that’s your first red flag. 🚩

3️⃣ Competitive pricing with a clear explanation of your rate, fees, and options. Remember: a pretty rate can come with some very ugly fees!

4️⃣ Excellent communication and service. You should never have to send out a search party just to get your lender to call you back. 😂

In this business… relationships matter. Trust matters. Rapport matters.

After 25 years in the mortgage industry, one thing I can say with confidence is that no one does this alone. Over the years, I’ve had the pleasure of building amazing relationships with escrow officers, title reps, appraisers, agents, underwriters, and processors. And let me tell you… when you build genuine relationships and earn people’s trust, they will go out of their way to help make things happen.

That’s why I value loyalty and connection so much.

It means a lot when you can laugh this hard with your loan processor after 18 years of working together because that relationship was built through long days, difficult files, problem solving, trust, and consistency.

So today I want to highlight someone who has been a huge part of my business for many years — Jessica Ankele, owner of JMA Loan Processing.

Not only is she incredibly knowledgeable, but she genuinely goes above and beyond for my clients and files. If I miss something, she catches it. She’s always one step ahead when it comes to LOEs, conditions, monitoring rates, and helping keep transactions moving smoothly.

Some clients become so much more than a transaction. 🤍

I met this client while door knocking in Whittier back in 2008. Since then, I’ve helped her with multiple loans, and today she stopped by because her mortgage payment unexpectedly increased.

After reviewing everything and calling her lender, we discovered her homeowner’s insurance had been canceled and lender-placed insurance was added at over $5,500 a year. 😳

This is exactly why I always tell people…When I do your loan, it’s never “one and done.”

I want to be your lender for life. The person you can still call years later when something changes, when you have questions, or when life happens.

Yes, technology has made everything faster and easier… but there’s still something special about having a real relationship with someone who answers the phone, knows your history, and genuinely cares.

That’s the way I’ve done business for 25 years, and that’s never changing. 🤍
