Chimney flashing done wrong = water getting in where it shouldn’t.

Counter flashing is supposed to be cut into the masonry—not just caulked on top. When it’s missing or improperly installed, water can slip behind the flashing and lead to hidden damage over time.

This is one of those details that gets missed… but makes a big difference.
