As this winter/snow storm approaches this Friday to Sunday, everyone please be prepared. Allow your faucet to drip to prevent freezing pipes.

Especially frigid winter weather is supposed to hit us this weekend!
Are your pipes winter ready? Here are some tips to prevent frozen or burst pipes during frigid temperatures:
- disconnect outdoor hoses
- keep the heat in your home at least 55 degrees
- allow your faucets to drip to prevent freezing

If you have unused or expired prescription drugs, don’t flush them down the toilet! You can SAFELY dispose of them for free on National Drug Take Back Day - Saturday, Oct. 25, 2025. Just take your medications to any of our collection sites from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. where Sedgwick County staff will be happy to assist you! These locations include:
Household Hazardous Waste Facility, 801 W. Stillwell
Oaklawn Activity Center, 4904 S. Clifton
Sedgwick County Zoo, 5555 W Zoo Blvd.
Bel Aire Police Department, 7651E Central Park Ave.

Sedgwick County residents are eligible to use a coupon to dispose of up to two mattresses or box springs of any size at no cost! Coupons are valid for 1 month from the date of the request. You will take your mattresses to Brooks Landfill at 4100 N West Street. Other furniture will not be accepted.
