If you want a fewer weeds in your lawn next spring, now is the time to control many broadleaf weeds. Late October and early November is the most effective time to control broadleaf weeds such as wild violet, dandelions, henbit, and chickweed.

As we approach the time of year when water freezes regularly, anything you use outside that has water in it needs to be drained to avoid damage. This includes hoses, drip systems, timers, and sprinkler lines just to name a few. Be sure to disconnect these items from the water source, including faucets and hydrants. Doing this task during the October timeframe for south central Kansas will prevent damage, and make things much easier next spring when it is time to start using your watering devices again.
