Meat-Filled Rings
Ingredients
For the dough
* 4 cups all-purpose flour
* 1 teaspoon instant yeast
* 2 tablespoons sugar
* 1 teaspoon salt
* 2 tablespoons powdered milk
* 2 tablespoons butter or margarine
* 1 egg
* ¾–1 cup warm water (as needed)
* ½ cup milk
* Vegetable oil, for deep frying
For the filling
* 1½ cups minced meat
* 1 small onion, finely chopped
* 1 small carrot, finely diced
* 1 small green pepper, diced
* 1 teaspoon curry powder
* ½ teaspoon thyme
* ½ teaspoon paprika
* ½ teaspoon seasoning powder
* Salt, to taste
* 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
Steps
1. Prepare the filling: Heat oil and sauté the onion. Add minced meat, carrot, green pepper, curry, thyme, paprika, seasoning and salt. Cook until the meat is fully done and the mixture is fairly dry. Set aside to cool.
2. Make the dough: Mix flour, yeast, sugar, salt and powdered milk. Add butter, egg and milk. Gradually add warm water and knead until you get a smooth, soft dough. Cover and let it rest for about 30–45 minutes.
3. Roll and cut: Divide the dough into portions and roll each one into a thin circle. Cut it into triangular section . Make small deep stripes/incisions on each piece without cutting completely through the dough. Place some filling near the wide end, then roll and shape each piece into a ring, sealing the edges firmly.
4. Deep-fry: Heat enough vegetable oil in a deep pan over medium heat. Carefully place the shaped rings into the hot oil and fry, turning occasionally, until **deep golden brown and crispy.
5. Remove with a slotted spoon: Lift the fried rings out with a slotted spoon and allow excess oil to drain. Place them on paper towels or a wire rack.
6. Serve: Arrange the golden, crispy stuffed rings on a serving plate. They can be served warm as a snack or appetizer.
