My goal is to share with as many as possible the story and current struggle of this remarkable young man, Cadet Steve D. Alford II. Although I have recently moved on from being his PMS, his has/had a lasting positive impact on many cadre, Cadets, school faculty/admin, and the community; this is one that I will definitely advocate and ask my top-notch village to assist. Every effort, big and small, helps. Frankly, Cadet Alford lost his ROTC scholarship as a sophomore due to low GPA because he did nothave balance in his life; he spent too much time with ROTC activities and not enough studying along with the distraction of a love interest (he’s definitely not the first or last man to make unwise decisions based on a woman).
During my two years, Cadet Alford worked hard and earned his way back in the ROTC program...as a non-scholarship Cadet. I personally observed his commitment to being successful and finding balance; at night or slow times in the field training exercises, Cadet Alford had a head lamp on and a textbook out to study. I’ve personally talked with his college financial aid office; he’s exhausted all federal and university funding. He has a part-time job to help with costs, yet he can only work so much in order to balance those hours with ROTC requirements and studying to maintain his GPA to graduate. He’s even enlisted in the Reserves to help with funding his education. He’s always sharing, mentoring, and coaching younger Cadets on his story for them to learn and not make the same mistakes.
This exceptional young man is on track to be a great officer, yet he needs some help to get over a major financial hurdle. He’s been selected for active duty upon graduation in May. Yet without paying for this past Fall 2018 semester, he cannot enroll for Spring semester. If he can’t finish his degree, he will not commission as an officer in the Army.
We want this exceptional young man as a leader in our Army ranks! Please share/assist, if you or know of any organization or person that can assist or interested in sharing his story.
Thank you!
Currently, I am a graduating senior studying physics, minoring in mathematics at Morehouse College. Undergrad has been tough experience. I cannot say that my best foot was always put forward. However, now that I have turned the corner and rallied myself, the future is truly bright. Upon graduatio...
