We used to vacation at the same Airbnb every year, always with our dog. It was against the house rules, but nobody ever said anything, until the owners found out and politely asked us not to book again. Lesson learned, no hard feelings. But it got me thinking: what happens when you buy a home and find out after the fact that your dog isn't welcome?
When you rent, you play by someone else's rules. When you own, you're supposed to make them. Except it's not quite that simple when shared spaces are involved. HOAs, condo associations, and mobile home parks all come with their own pet policies, and they vary a lot. Breed restrictions, weight limits, caps on the number of animals. These details can get buried in the stack of documents that comes with any real estate transaction, and they're easy to miss if nobody is specifically looking for them.
