Friday on Oak Island hits different.

Grab a blanket and a cooler. Rivermist takes the stage tonight at Middleton Park, 6:30 to 8:30, and it is free. Kids running in the grass, the sun going down, live music rolling across the park. This is the stuff people move here for.

And if you would rather be on the water than beside it? The bite is on. Spanish mackerel are thick nearshore on light tackle, and the kings are holding 15 to 20 miles out. Bring the light spinning gear and go have some fun.

This is a normal Friday at the beach here. Some folks save all year for one week of it. A few smart ones decide to make it the everyday.

Happy Wednesday! Wanted to tell everyone about Thursdays in Carolina Beach!

Every Thursday all summer, the Boardwalk Blast turns the Gazebo Stage into a free live show, then caps the night with fireworks over the ocean at 9pm. Bands play 6:30 to 9:30. Bring the family, grab a slice, post up in the sand.

This week bumps to Friday, July 3 for the holiday. The Carl Newton Review brings the R&B and soul, the fireworks light up the water, and the whole boardwalk comes alive.

Best part? It is free. Every single week, Memorial Day through Labor Day.

Southport doesn't just do the Fourth of July. Southport owns it.

Our little riverfront town throws one of the biggest Independence Day festivals in the whole state, and this year it lines up with America's 250th birthday, so they're pulling out all the stops. We're talking 70+ events between Southport and Oak Island, a boat parade down the Cape Fear, a packed waterfront market, live music, and fireworks over the river July 4th at 9PM sharp.

Heads up if you're coming: parking downtown is free through July 1st, then hop the free trolley from Southport Elementary July 2nd through 4th.

This is the stuff people fall in love with down here. The festivals, the front porches, the river, the small-town buzz. It's the kind of week that makes you never want to leave.
