How did this happen?

Banks don't want to own houses. Once they go into foreclosure a lock goes on the door and an auctioneer takes to the court house steps (literally) to auction off the property to whoever shows up. Cash investors mostly.

It's a scene out of 1912.
But that's how it's done.

Plot Twist: you are not allowed to go inside. In exchange for a very low cash price you take a lot of risk. Usually that's risk like "bad joists" and not cadavers.

Adding AC to a historic home is no easy task but mounting a wildly inefficient plastic coffin on the walls deserves prison time. Instead: try a High-Velocity (SDVH) system. No bulky ductwork. Uses 2-3" tubing snaked through the walls and floor joists. No tearing out plaster or trim. Whole house cooling.

This is why the word "craftsmanship" cannot be used in anything built today. Sure, you might have died very young of scarlet fever in the late 1800s, but we all have to go from something - better to do in without a plastic sliding barn door.

Something of a "campus" on two acres with the main residence, a carriage house with 3 apartments and a pre-Civil War brick building that needs redevelopment (if you buy it, I will live here and be the caretaker (for free)).

$1.85M for the main building or $2.35M for a turnkey inn/hotel operation with everything inside. (Reminder: free innkeeper!)

A quarter mile off the road on a massive pond. The very opposite of Vinyl Village and everything so purely tranquil and Southern about our neighboring communities. Wow! The inside is...different. You're not used to seeing cypress walls and exposed rafters, but what a life to live on your own estate!
