Just refreshed on Wind Mitigation for 2 diff client’s this week. Still amazes me that of all of the billions of dollars in damage, litigation and just general overall costs - that ONLY FLORIDA has rules to force insurers to reduce premiums. Of course most insurers will honor this form as well - but A) There is a lot of verbiage that makes little to no sense using a form for FL homeowners in the state of NC for example - and NC has yet to standardize this as a form B) it is not yet a required mandate for coverage in any other coastal states and C) there is still no organization behind what insurance can charge you - as a result we are all paying for the negligence of others - some times its builder negligence and skimping on proper materials - other times its homeowner negligence and just wanting to save a penny on their build - in the end when their home’s roof gets blown off and a gable wall comes down due to poor attachments - insurance covers it and relays the costs across the rest of its clients... all while many of the remainder of its clients (ahem!..LIKE_US!! AHem!!) get to pick up MAJOR increases as a result - all while we work hard to ensure that our homes are checked and standardized to help mitigate or prevent major losses. Case in point - our insurance bill has more than DOUBLED in just 2 and 1/2 years. I could go on regarding this much due to the LACK of regulations to help curtail and keep this from occuring - yet most of us hate having too much big govt and regulation - yet here is where I think to allow it to run unchecked is BEGGING for future problems - for sure.
Anyway, check with your local insurance agency about the potential to save money if you have a wind mitigation inspection done on your home. If you own a home with a HIP roof or have impact glass and rated openings or a ranch home or a dozen other potentials - it could be the best money spent to save you at least the cost of the inspection - Just within your first year too! Just want to say hi to everyone. Last few years have been busy busy busy of course - with a 3 yr old and an 8 year old and of course this business is now up and running. So expect lots if info on inspections and advice on ALL different types of aspects of your home!!
