One of the hardest parts of remodeling is explaining that you never truly know what’s hiding behind the walls or beneath a concrete slab until demolition begins. In this bathroom remodel, we uncovered a leaking cast iron P-trap under the slab which is something that simply couldn’t have been seen during our initial inspection. This is exactly why we include contingency clauses in our contracts and invoices. Contrary to what some people may think, we’re not looking for ways to make more money. In fact, we hate finding hidden issues because we know it creates unexpected costs and can make homeowners feel like they’re being taken advantage of. Our reputation is built on honesty, and we never recommend work that isn’t necessary. After all, what’s the point of investing thousands of dollars into a beautiful new bathroom if the underlying plumbing problem is still there waiting to cause damage? Fortunately, our customer chose to do it the right way by replacing the old cast iron drain with new PVC, giving them peace of mind that their brand-new bathroom looks great and has a plumbing system built to last.

Installing an Aquasana whole-home water filtration system always sounds simple until the crawl space gets involved. We added a bypass loop so the system can be serviced without shutting water off to the house, and installed a dedicated drain line for flushing and maintenance. I also managed to run out of PEX-A fittings halfway through, so a few PEX-B fittings got drafted into the game to help finish the job. Not ideal… but the water is filtered and the crawl space workout is complete.
