Ten years ago, I was waiting for a transplant. Blood transfusions kept me alive during that wait , without that blood, I wouldn’t have had the time I needed.
Here’s what most people don’t realize: a single donation can be split into red cells, platelets, and plasma, meaning one pint can help save up to three different people. That blood goes to surgery patients, cancer patients getting chemo, moms with complications during childbirth, kids fighting illness, and people like me , just waiting for a second chance.
There’s no substitute for it. It can’t be manufactured. The only source is someone willing to give it.
This year marks 10 years since my transplant. Ten years I almost didn’t get, but strangers rolled up their sleeves and gave blood when it mattered.
Now it’s my turn to ask you to do the same.
