Seven Ways to Boost Your Home’s Fall Curb Appeal

As summer flowers wither and leaves start to drop from trees and shrubs, your home's exterior might begin to lose its luster. However, with a bit of time and effort, you can revive its charm.

Here are a few tips to refresh your home and enhance its fall curb appeal.

1. Maintain Your Lawn. Rake leaves and either compost them or bag them for recycling, then edge your lawn for a crisp, clean look.

2. Trim Trees and Shrubs. Remove dead blooms, trim unruly stems, and cut dead branches at the base. Hire a professional to trim large trees before winter to prevent damage from wind or snow.

3. Clear Out Flower Beds. Pull weeds and remove faded annuals. Plant fall bloomers like mums, marigolds, asters, or flowering kale for vibrant color, then add a fresh layer of mulch for a neat, polished look.

4. Clean Outdoor Lighting. With shorter days, outdoor lighting improves curb appeal and safety. Remove and clean glass shades with glass cleaner and wipe other parts with an all-purpose cleaner.

5. Power Wash Exterior. Wash away built-up dirt from your siding, foundation, sidewalks and driveway with a power washer.

6. Spruce Up Front Door and Porch. Sweep away summer debris, fix any loose railings or steps, clean your windows inside and out and if needed repaint porch furniture and your front door.

7. Decorate. Create an inviting look with a fall wreath on the front door and potted seasonal flowers. Further dress up your porch by adding a few pumpkins and an autumn-themed welcome mat.
