The appliances outside of your home should be properly cared for and used. These tips will help keep your exterior home appliances in good shape and prevent accidental injuries when using them.

lack of proper attic insulation can increase the risk of damage due to ice dam formations in winter. Heat escaping from the home through the attic can cause the temperature of the upper part of the roof to rise, while the lower sections remain colder. This results in ice dam formations at the lower edges of a roof, trapping melting snow and preventing it from draining away properly. This can lead to water leaks, causing both physical damage in the home and moisture related health issues. If you live in a climate with regular snowfall, taking a few preventive steps could help:

1. Have gutters and down spouts cleaned to help ensure proper drainage away from the home.

2. Check for air leaks inside your home that may lead to the attic, and seal gaps around plumbing and wiring, attic hatches, and light fixtures.

3. Make sure attic is properly vented and that vents are not blocked or damaged.

4. Have your attic insulation checked by a professional and consider making recommended improvements to help prevent more costly repairs down the line.

asbestos is a toxic mineral that was commonly used in building materials until the late 1970s. Asbestos can be found in many older homes in roof tiles, insulation, and cement wall siding. Its use has declined in recent years, but asbestos exposure is still believed to be a factor in 40,000 deaths a year in the US, according to the Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization. As such, awareness regarding asbestos is important for understanding and mitigating risks in your home.
