Ever heard of a "portable mortgage"? ๐
A new bill called the MOVE Act (H.R. 10028) was recently introduced in Congress by Rep. Tom Kean Jr. It could be a great new act, and hopefully it passes!
If passed, it would allow homeowners to transfer their current low mortgage rate, balance, and terms directly to a new home when they move, instead of forcing them to lock into today's higher rates. Under the proposal, federal entities like Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac would be required to back these portable loans.
โ ๏ธ Important to note: This is currently just a proposed bill sitting in a House committee. It is not an active law, so homeowners cannot port their mortgage rates just yet.
What do you think? Would a portable mortgage law help unlock the housing market, or do you see drawbacks to federal backing? If this bill passes, would it actually convince you to move, or are you staying put regardless? Let's discuss! ๐
