Friends, scammers are out in full force. If you come across ads on social media for homes for rent or sale, please do your due diligence and research them before taking any action.

Recently, I've had an increasing number of people call about active listings—both mine and those of other agents—that scammers have stolen and reposted. They are using our photos, descriptions, and listing information to scam people out of their hard-earned money.

Here are a few ways to protect yourself:

• Call a local real estate agent. Ask if the home is actually for sale or rent. Agents have access to information that isn't always available to the public.

• See the property before sending any money. Never send money to someone without physically seeing the home first. Even if it's just a drive-by, many legitimate listings will have a For Sale sign in the yard.

• Ask questions. Trust your instincts. If something feels off or sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Please share this information with friends and family. A little caution can save someone from becoming the next victim of a scam.
