Labor Day weekend looked a little different this year — and I wouldn’t have had it any other way.

I spent the weekend at the Oklahoma State Auctioneers Association Summer Conference, and every time I walk into a state convention, I’m reminded why I keep coming back year after year.

Sure, there’s the competition. There’s nothing quite like stepping up alongside talented auctioneers who push you to sharpen your skills and get better every time you take the mic.

But the biggest value goes far beyond the competition.

It’s the people.

Over the years, many of the auctioneers I’ve competed against have become more like family than competitors. These conventions put you in a room full of people who understand this business — people chasing the same goal of growing, improving and building something better.

And you never leave empty-handed.

There’s always a nugget. An idea you can take home and implement. A conversation that changes the way you look at something. A connection that turns into an opportunity. A piece of advice that makes a real difference in your business.

Networking has been one of the true keys to my success, and weekends like this are a perfect reminder of why showing up matters.

If you’re in the auction industry and you’re not attending your state and national events, I encourage you to start.

You’re missing more than education or competition.

You’re missing the relationships that can help shape your career — and the people who eventually become family.

Brandon DuBois stepped onto the stage at the Alabama Auction Association Convention & Contests ready to compete — and walked away as the 2026 Alabama Grand Champion Auctioneer!

Championships are earned long before the final name is called. They’re built through years of hard work, taking the stage, learning from every contest and continuing to sharpen your craft.

Congratulations, Brandon, on an incredible accomplishment and a well-earned title! We’re proud to celebrate the auctioneers who continue to raise the bar for our industry.

Some contests are about the trophies. Others are about the people you meet along the way.

Brandon DuBois and DeWayne McClendon showed up in Louisville this weekend ready to take the stage at the Battle of the Bluegrass. While neither walked away with a Top 10 finish, what these contests have already given them is worth far more than a placing.

A few years ago, Brandon and DeWayne both showed up to compete. That shared experience helped build a friendship, that friendship grew into a business relationship, and somewhere along the way, it became a whole lot more like family.

Brandon has only been competing for four years, but in that short time, contests across the country have introduced him to so many of the people he now holds closest — both personally and professionally.

That’s one of the greatest parts of this industry. You may show up hoping to win a contest, but you often leave with friendships, connections and opportunities that last far beyond the competition.

We’re proud of Brandon and DeWayne for continuing to show up, take the stage and represent DuBois Auction Co. — and even more thankful for the relationships this industry continues to bring into our lives.
