Boil Water Advisory Lifted for All Customers โ€ผ๏ธ

Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Utilities just announced that the boil water advisory has been lifted, effective immediately, for all customers. Laboratory testing has confirmed that water throughout all impacted areas of the distribution system is safe for consumption, and customers may return to normal water use.
ย
The advisory was issued following a loss of system pressure that created the potential for back siphonage and the introduction of harmful bacteria into the water distribution system. This precautionary measure was necessary to ensure compliance with state regulations and reporting requirements while water quality testing was conducted.
ย
In addition, repairs have been successfully completed on the damaged water main that contributed to the service disruption. Testing and evaluation of the newly installed section of pipe are currently underway. Results from those tests are expected to be available for review the morning of Saturday, August 1. Once testing confirms the line meets all water quality and operational requirements, the repaired main will be returned to service.ย
ย
Staff continue to monitor system recovery efforts, and customer water conservation remains important during this phase until the repaired main is placed into service.

โ€œProviding safe, reliable water service is one of our core responsibilities, and our team recognizes that water is critical to public health, safety, and strength of our community,โ€ said WSFC Utilities Director Courtney Driver. โ€œOur employees work hard around the clock to maintain the system we all depend on. We will evaluate this event and implement improvements to further strengthen system reliability.โ€
ย
We thank you for your patience and cooperation throughout the incident, as well as emergency response partners, neighboring utilities, and local and regional agencies for their assistance, resources, and expertise throughout the recovery effort.

๐Ÿ’ฆImportant Update for Forsyth County & Surrounding Areas๐Ÿ’ฆ

Due to the major water main break affecting our area, many homes and businesses are experiencing little to no water pressure, while others are without water altogether. As water service is restored, the City of Winston-Salem has issued a boil water advisory for affected customers.

What does a boil water advisory mean? When water pressure drops significantly, thereโ€™s a possibility that bacteria or other contaminants could enter the water system. As a precaution, you should bring your tap water to a rolling boil for at least one minute, then allow it to cool before using it for drinking, making ice, brushing your teeth, preparing food, or giving it to pets.

In addition to following the boil water advisory, there are a few simple steps you can take to help protect your plumbing system once your water is turned back on:

๐Ÿ’ง Turn faucets on slowly. Start with the faucet closest to where the water enters your home or building to help release trapped air and sediment.

๐Ÿ’ง Run cold water for several minutes. This helps flush out dirt, rust, or other debris that may have entered the water lines during the repair process.

๐Ÿ’ง Check for leaks. Inspect faucets, toilets, water heaters, washing machine hoses, and any visible plumbing once water pressure returns.

๐Ÿ’ง Clean faucet aerators if needed. Sediment can become trapped in the small screens on your faucets, reducing water flow. Removing and rinsing them can often restore normal pressure.

๐Ÿ’ง Wait before using hot water. Allow the cold water to run first so your water heater has a chance to refill and flush any sediment before heavy use.

๐Ÿ’ง Monitor your water. Cloudy or slightly discolored water can be normal immediately after service is restored. Let the cold water run until it clears. If discoloration continues, contact your local water provider.

We know this has been a frustrating day for many families and businesses throughout our community. We appreciate the crews working to restore service as quickly as possible and hope everyone has clean, reliable water again soon.

If you notice leaks, low pressure that doesnโ€™t improve, or other plumbing issues after your water is restored, the Cogar Plumbing team is here to help.

๐Ÿ› ๏ธ Maintenance Monday

A few minutes of preventative maintenance can save you from costly repairs down the road.

Here are a few simple things every resident should check regularly:

โœ” Look for leaks under sinks and around toilets
โœ” Test smoke and carbon monoxide detectors
โœ” Replace or clean HVAC filters as needed
โœ” Watch for signs of pest activity
โœ” Make sure gutters and exterior drains are clear

Staying on top of small issues helps keep your home safe, comfortable, and running smoothly.

If you notice a maintenance concern, give our office a call so we can help.
