Winston Factory Lofts

Winston Factory Lofts Our Community consists of two buildings, both originally built as Hanes Knitting factories in the Originally built in 1920 by the P. H.

Hanes Company for textile manufacturing, we converted these majestic industrial buildings into 171 one-, two- and three-bedroom apartment homes. Construction involved all new mechanical and fire alarm systems; roof, skylight and window replacement; restoration of the façade; new main entrance foyer accessing a new lobby and lounge. We introduced contemporary architectural features throughout while

preserving the attractive historic character of the buildings. Our design has more amenities than any other downtown apartment community and more than virtually all of the condo projects in Winston-Salem. The highlights include:
Indoor Secured Parking
Outdoor Pool (full-size), jetted pool, two gas grills and outdoor fire pit. Two Resident Lounges, with pool tables. Two Fitness Centers
16-seat movie theater
Two roof top decks
Pet Park…pets are welcome! Secure Storage Units

For the unit interiors we’ve gone for an “industrial chic” look, including:

Huge windows in every unit
Loft designs that take advantage of the 13+ foot ceilings
Exposed spiral ductwork
Sealed concrete floors in some units; bamboo or original hardwood floors in others
Fluted columns and exposed brick in most/all units
Granite counter tops with under mount sinks
Stainless steel appliances

We’re located just steps from the Arts District and you’ll be able to walk to plenty of restaurants, night life, and art galleries. In the summer time, we enjoy walking to the Summer on Trade festivals held several times throughout the season. If you’re looking for the best Winston Salem apartments, look no further.

Meet Chevy, our August pet of the month! Here are a few notes about Chevy from his family:

We found Chevy through a Facebook post. He was advertised as a Great Dane puppy, which is evidently not the case.

Chevy was actually given to use with his name. We kept it because it tied in with our other dog that we had at the time, Diesel.

Chevy LOVES a tennis ball, glaring and whining at cats that live across the train tracks, and ice cubes for treats. He enjoys cuddling up with his dads and greeting everyone that walks through the door with a smiling face, wagging tail, and a loud "hellllooooooo" (sorry to everyone that hears him in the hallways in the mornings).

The Winston Factory Lofts buildings were originally part of a three-building complex that housed the operations of the P. H. Hanes Company from 1916 until 1951.

Phase 1 of Winston Factory Lofts is housed in the second of the three, built in 1920-21 immediately north of the 1916 building. Known as the ‘Knitting Building’ or “North Building’, the structure copied the 1916 building in construction method and form and is built from concrete and reinforced steel.

Phase 2 of Winston Factory Lofts is located in the third and final building in the complex that was originally built in 1928 at 101 E. Sixth Street.

After Hanes Knitting moved its operations in 1951, Phase 1 was subsequently used by the Brown-Rogers-Dixson Company for warehousing and distribution of appliances throughout the southeast. Phase 2 was owned by R.J. Reynolds To***co Co. The buildings were acquired by Clachan Properties, LLC in 2006 and 2008, respectively.

The buildings are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (see the National Register Nomination) and are designated by the City of Winston Salem as Historic Landmarks.
