Four local families will soon receive new homes through the State Housing Initiatives Partnership (SHIP) program.

On Sept. 1, the Polk County Board of County Commissioners approved nearly $870,000 in SHIP assistance. The funding will go towards four housing replacement projects. The housing replacement projects will be built in north and west Lakeland and Auburndale.

The project will replace homes that are severely deteriorated, destroyed by fire or damaged during Hurricane Milton. The SHIP program funding will also cover necessary improvements including wells and septic systems.
