A Realtor’s commission is NOT the same thing as their take-home pay.

“You’re pretty much out of business if you’re paying for all of that stuff.”
This line from one conversation that I had recently, really makes me think; A transaction closes, and the commission may look great on paper. But then come the costs of actually running the business:

• Brokerage splits
• Referral fees
• Lead generation
• Marketing
• MLS and technology fees
• Insurance
• Taxes
• Gas and vehicle expenses
• Photography, signs and other transaction costs
• And countless hours that don't show up on the settlement statement

So the real question isn't simply:

“How much commission did the Realtor make?”
It's:
“How much did they actually keep after running the business?”
Real estate is a business, not just a commission check. And I think the economics of being a Realtor deserve a much more honest conversation.
