Now that school is fully-rolling, it's fun to look back at lasts month's very successful School Supply Drive for Royal Oaks Elementary. Thank you so much to past clients, local neighbors, fellow Weichert-Warriors, & Royal Oaks Staff for coordinating all of these amazing donations. We brought in quite the haul -- over $2,000 of School Supplies going directly to students of Royal Oaks.

It's truly wonderful to see such generosity & kindness directed at kids in our schools. 🏫

Statistics like these can be jarring to the everyday consumer — heck, they’re jarring to me.

One way to hedge your cost-of-living expenses against inflation is by owning your home. A mortgage is fixed. Rent isn’t.

It’s 2026: in many cases buying a home is more expensive than renting — but is it better? Most of the time cheaper isn’t better. When rent goes up year after year, that mortgage payment you were quoted a few years ago might look pretty darn good.

Home ownership is a proactive approach to living. While renting is convenient, it’s subject to considerably higher demand and price fluctuation.

Rental demand is at an all-time high. Many prospective tenants have to send dozens of applications to find a place to live. High demand means less selection & higher payments — not withstanding the fact that paying rent generates zero dollars for you to apply to your next living situation.

Ultimately - you must decide what’s in your best financial interests. Owning a home isn’t for everyone, but it may behoove you to look beyond the near term & instead look 3-5-7-10 years down the road.

Live life proactively. Make smart choices & thoughtful decisions. It just might pay off.

A short drive down the Miss from MSP lies Red Wing. I’ve always enjoyed Red Wing - it offers a unique hand-cut MTB trail system that winds around a bluff with great views of the town & River. I’ve always found the fishing there to be good, too.

One thing you may not know about Red Wing is that it’s the birthplace of American Ski Jumping. Between Red Wing & Frontenac, there was once a vibrant ski jumping culture here that has long since faded. In 1887, 24 year old named Mikkel Hemmestvedt won the first organized Ski Jumping competition in the US here. The prize for 1st Platz was $35 in Gold Bars (1.7oz) — which today would equate to about $7460 in Gold.

The ski jumping they were doing was soooooooo sketchy - I think it’s safe to say Mikkel earned his 1.7oz in Gold. His flight distance was 37 feet. Which on that equipment, is definitely sendy.

In our world of emergent digital omniscience, it’s easy to be completely immersed in our devices: the hustle and bustle of everyday life, our jobs — there never seems to be enough time to get it all done. However, take a moment to pause & look up: notice the world around you… you’d be surprised what there is to see.

We are very excited to support Royal Oaks Elementary School next Saturday with our School Supply Drive! Swing by on Saturday the 22nd from 11am-2pm. *If you drop off supplies on Saturday, you'll be entered into a raffle for a chance to win 1 of 10 $50 gift cards to local Woodbury restaurants!*

Over the years, I've spent quite a bit of time in the public school system as a volunteer, instructor, student teacher, and professional teacher. The public schools are an important place.

Not only are they a place for developing our young people, but they're our community centers, polling locations, and one of the few shared institutions where people from all walks of life naturally gather, connect, and invest in a common future.

For some kids, school is one of the only places they feel safe or happy. Investing and supporting our local public schools is one of the best ways we can support our communities.
