Before Selby’s opened its doors in 2019, this Atherton address had already been a restaurant for 82 years.
At 3001 El Camino Real, the building has housed just four restaurants since 1937: Johnny’s, Barbarossa, Chantilly’s, and now Selby’s.
Today, Selby’s has a Michelin star, a 20,000-bottle w**e cellar, and a reputation that reaches well beyond Atherton. But what makes the story interesting is the continuity: through nearly nine decades, this corner has remained a place to gather over a meal.
In a town without a commercial district or a traditional downtown, Selby’s has become something of a neighborhood living room—and the building has been serving that purpose long before Selby’s arrived.
