Residential burglaries dropped during COVID because...well... people were staying home! 😷 As restrictions are lifted, some reminders for when you're away...

✔️ Lock doors and windows no matter how long you'll be gone
✔️ Don't hide a key outside your house! Instead give one to a trusted neighbor or the office
✔️ Don't leave a note for a friend saying when you'll be back (burglars will know how much time they have!)
✔️ Leave the TV or radio on if you'll only be out briefly
✔️ For longer times away, have neighbors collect packages/mail and use timers or smart devices to turn lights on

Enjoy the summer...and some normalcy!!

Are you adequately Insured? 🏡 ⚠️ 💧

The condo association's master insurance policy only covers the building, NOT personal belongings OR any owner upgrades! New flooring, cabinets, appliances, or renovations are generally not covered. Residents need insurance for the insides of their units, belongings, and any damage caused by something within your unit (such as a leaking toilet). Check with your association and your insurance agent to make sure you're fully covered!

JUNE is National Safety Month! 🧯 ⚠️ 🚑

When was the last time you checked your fire extinguisher? It's good to visually check them monthly and have a full inspection every 6 years. Have at least one in your home and know how to use it...BEFORE you need it!! And make sure you have the right type! B-class extinguishers are good for most kitchen fires, but a multipurpose A-B-C can work as well. Check before you buy!

How's your garden this year? 🏡🌱🌺🥕

If you haven't yet, consider composting as a natural way to enrich planting and gardening soil. And a good way to recycle kitchen waste along with yard clippings and fallen leaves. The keys to successful compost are time, ventilation and heat. Just remember of where you place the compost on your property to avoid offensive odors seeping into your neighbor’s living space!

As we start to enjoy more outdoor activities 🙌, don't forget some bike safety basics for the kids. 🚴 Here are 4 steps to safer biking:

1️⃣ Teach kids how to fall. It's inevitable so make sure they know to roll on impact, relax and land on padded and fleshiest parts.
2️⃣ Check equipment. Look for cracks, dents, sharps, and slippery surfaces. Replace or professionally repair.
3️⃣ Make a rule...one person to each piece of equipment. They might be less likely to do something unsafe when you aren't there.
4️⃣ Protective equipment...always! Knee and elbow pads when their learning and a safe, cool-looking helmet, so their more likely to wear it.

The Month of May! The Battle for the Backyard has begun!!!

Bug bites and stings are an inevitable seasonal annoyance. At best, they can be uncomfortable; at worst, life-threatening.

Lawn treatments can help, but to avoid the bite, use a repellent and cover any exposed skin with light-weight, light-colored clothing. Avoid wearing perfume and fragrances, they can attract bugs!

And if the little buggers do find you, whatever you do, don’t scratch!

We all CAN just get along...through communication. It often will prevent and resolve conflict before things get...intense! You don’t have to be friends or spend time together to achieve a peaceful coexistence, but here's a couple things to remember:

👋 Say Hello - At the mailbox, while walking the dog or when you see a moving van arrive, introduce yourself.
📣 Provide a heads up - Whether a construction project, landscaping or a big party, contact your neighbors beforehand.
🌄 Consider the view - Keep areas of your property that others can see presentable.
🕊️ Remain calm- If a neighbor mentions a problem they have with you, thank them for the input. You don’t have to agree or justify anything. Wait for any anger to subside before responding.
