❄️ **Cold Weather Reminder: Help Prevent Frozen Pipes & Heating Issues** ❄️
With extreme cold temperatures, a few simple steps can help protect your home and plumbing:
✅ Keep thermostats set at the **same temperature day and night** in all areas of your home. Do **not** set them back overnight. During extreme cold, it’s best to keep your home a bit warmer than usual.
✅ Your home temperature may run a few degrees cooler than the thermostat setting during extreme cold. If you feel heat, your system is likely working properly—this is normal.
✅ If you use a **wood stove**, be careful not to trick the thermostat into thinking the house is warm while pipes in exterior walls freeze. It’s best to rely on your central heating system until temperatures moderate.
✅ **Keep interior doors open** to allow heat to circulate—closed rooms are more likely to freeze.
✅ If you have pipes that may freeze, let **hot and cold water drip overnight**.
✅ Open doors under **kitchen sinks and bathroom vanities** to improve air circulation.
✅ If your home will be **vacant**, ensure there’s enough fuel and arrange for temperature monitoring.
✅ Ask a **friend or neighbor to check daily** or use electronic temperature monitoring. If you’re away, don’t turn the thermostat down too low.
✅ Keep **garage doors closed**, especially if there are pipes in the garage or living spaces above it. Pay close attention to heating in those areas.
⚠️ Most importantly: **Do not set back your thermostat during extreme cold.**
Stay warm and stay safe! 🏠❄️
