On this Easter day I'd like to offer up for viewing the 2016 film, RISEN. It's a film I'm rather fond of. I've always believed that the Roman leadership in Jerusalem and the Jewish Pharisees would both desperately want to squelch any possibility of Old Testament prophesies appearing to be met in regard to any messiah rising from death. And because of that it is only logical that an all-out search to find the "missing body" would ensue.

In short, RISEN is a detective story, with Joseph Fiennes turning in a very solid performance as the Roman tribune, Clavius Aquila Valerius Niger, assigned to find Jesus' body and prove him just human and dead.

The film is nicely written and directed (it follows a logical trajectory, even though it goes a bit astray from Biblical narrative toward the end of its 3rd act), with very good production & costume design, all on a very modest budget. It also has an affective film score by Roque Baños.

So, if you haven't seen the film, or even if you have, today may be a good day to do so, or do so again. One viewing option is available below.

God bless all of you on this Palm Sunday. Though I do not profess to be Catholic, below is a brief sermon from the wise and intelligent Bishop Robert Barron that I think is very interesting.

I've pondered this very subject about Judas over the years, and I do believe there's something to be said for the positions the Bishop points out in this message.

God is truly a loving and merciful, yet sovereignly powerful Creator of all that has been created. I would not presume to speak for Him. I simply try to understand the essence of His Word. Nor can I pretend to judge the heart, soul, and repentance of any individual who hurts over the wrongs that they have committed. Such matters are between God and His creations. And perhaps we (at least many of us) should not be so certain as to who has and has not been allocated to eternal separtion from His Glory and Holiness. So again, I simply wish God's blessings upn all. May we all reach out to Him in accordance to His wishes for us.
