This is a reminder to go check your sump pump. Or call us if you cant. Very important to prevent thousands of dollars in repairs. This incident is going to cost the homeowner thousands due to the crawlspace flooding which led to the insulation being torn off the wall, mold, and other issues. Inspections are necessary once a year at a minimum. Get on our maintenence program so you dont have to worry about these things. It will pay for itself at a minimum!

Nows a real good time to make sure your sump pump is working properly. These free floating bulb switch type pumps are notorious for not functioning properly due to the float getting hung up. This is the reason why we will NEVER install this type of pump. This one is getting swapped out next week for this reason. This crawlspace v***r barrier and insulation is now destroyed due to flooding. Which is also getting replaced.

If your wondering how this can damage foam board insulation, this is because the water level has made the insulation float and enlarged the nail holes breaking the foam board free from the foundation walls. It then continued to rise up the wall pressing on the floor joists above and broke the boards in several pieces.

So, you may have seen our previous post about ice dams. Today's inspection had some pretty significant ice dams going on! This particular home had a combination of improper venting (insulation stuffed soffit areas) AND low insulation. Both of which are contributing factors in this issue. Here's some pics. Enjoy!
