🇲🇽 While US media was running travel warnings about Mexico, something was happening here that almost no US outlet covered. 13.5 million Mexicans were lifted out of poverty between 2018 and 2024 — the largest poverty reduction in Mexico's recorded history. The UN credited Mexico's minimum wage policy as responsible for 60% of all poverty reduction across Latin America in that period. Not 60% of Mexico's reduction. 60% of the entire region's.

Mexico's Gini coefficient — the standard measure of economic inequality — dropped from 0.426 to 0.391, making Mexico the second most equal country in the Americas, after Canada. Unemployment stands at 2.7% — one of the lowest levels in the world. Mexico's minimum wage has increased every single year since 2019 — rising 16% in 2019, 20% in 2020, 15% in 2021, 23% in 2022, 20% in 2023, 20% in 2024, 12% in 2025 and 13% in 2026. The country US media describes as economically fragile just posted the most sustained wage growth of any major economy in the Western Hemisphere.
